Arin’s First Weeks of School:

Fifth grade this year is off to a great start. I was shocked when I started school and had such a great class. My students are fantastic. I have such a variety of personalities and it makes the class so fun.

I have spent just about every free moment this month preparing lessons and planning classes. The amount of hours I have spent in front of a computer typing up plans is definitely not healthy, but I know it will pay off in the end. Each week I am able to start in ready to go and it makes a huge difference in the way my class runs.

My favorite part of working at Logos so far is that I get to teach the bible everyday IN CLASS. I get to pray with and for my students and teach them about Christ. It is something I look forward to daily.

So far in school, I have had things said daily that have made me laugh. I love kids and teaching for this very reason. Here are a couple of my favorites:

1. Working on problem solving in math class:

Me: “Let’s find out who ate and drank what for lunch according to the problem.”

Students: Giving me the answers

Me: “Great. You’re right Mark had the tuna roll and water. Is that what you all found as the answer?”

Student: “Mark had WHAT for lunch?”

Me: “A tuna roll and water”

Student: “WHAT?! Why?”

Me: “…I guess because he was hungry?”

Student: “MRS.ROGERS WHY would he eat a tuna roll IN water? Was he dipping it in the water? That’s gross.”

Me: “Oooh”

Whole class loses it in laughter. I will learn to speak more clearly next time ;)

2. Discussing volcanoes with a group of four students:

Me: “Great, volcanoes can be in a hill or a mountain.”

Student to his partner: “Did you hear that? Write that down. Volcanoes can be in a hill ON a mountain!”

There have been a thousand other instances where I was really in the midst of teaching and something hilarious just made it all fall apart. These are my favorite moments of the day.
